Why is the rainforest so important for us? What is special about the rainforest?
Rainforests are important to us because they are the most species-rich ecosystems on earth. In intact rainforests, countless species find a suitable habitat. They are therefore incredibly important for species conservation.
Rainforests and their palm swamps and peat bogs are also essential for a healthy climate on our planet. They store huge amounts of CO2. Additionally, they cool the surrounding environment and ensure stable precipitation.
Rainforests also form an important part of our livelihood in other ways: They provide many of ur everyday products, from food items such as bananas and coffee to wood, personal care products and medicine. In addition, rainforests purify the air by removing exhaust fumes, filter water, and maintain nutrient-rich soils.
