Why is the rainforest so important for us? What is special about the rainforest?
Rainforests are so important to us because they are the most species-rich ecosystems on earth. In intact rainforests, countless species find a suitable habitat. They are therefore incredibly important for species conservation.
Rainforests and their palm swamps and forest moors are also essential for a healthy climate on our planet. They store huge amounts of CO2. They also cool the environment and ensure stable precipitation.
Rainforests also form an important part of our livelihood in other ways: many of our everyday products come from them, from foodstuffs such as bananas and coffee to wood, care products and medicine. In addition, rainforests clean the air of exhaust fumes, filter water and maintain nutrient-rich soils.
