What does Wilderness International Peru do?
Our sister foundation Wilderness International Peru is concretely committed to the protection of the tropical Amazon rainforest. Currently, we are primarily active in the Madre de Dios region, where our protected areas are located along the Tambopata River. Chris Kirkby, President of Wilderness International Peru, is coordinating land purchases for this purpose. WI Peru is also active in environmental education with partners. For example, a joint project with the local company Wasai Lodge&Expeditions allows members of the environmental police and students from the nearby town of Puerto Maldonado to experience and learn about the forest on their doorstep. The forest rangers of WI Peru take care of the regular monitoring and protection of the forest areas. WI Peru also works closely with our partner organization Fauna Forever in researching our areas. Volunteers, donors and supporters are also involved in this work.
