Does the carbon footprint sum up all my impacts on the earth?

Our CO2 emissions only represent a fraction of the impact our activities have on the planet. We don't only leave traces on Earth when we take the bus or fly by plane. For example, oil extraction, refining and transport consume natural resources and destroy habitats. The construction of infrastructure such as roads, resource extraction for machinery production, and the construction of factories also lead to the pollution or destruction of many valuable ecosystems worldwide. As a result, the basis for a vast biodiversity and, ultimately, for our own survival disappears.

This ecological footprint has so far been difficult to make fully tangible. At present, we can only express a fraction in simplified figures, the CO2 footprint.

It is all the more important to find holistic solutions that do not focus exclusively on avoiding or reabsorbing CO2, but rather on perserving biodiversity and keeping the climate stable.
