How accurate is the calculation of my footprint?
As far as the data situation allows, the entire life cycle of a product or activity is included in the CO2 calculation (e.g. not only gasoline combustion of the car, but also emissions from raw material extraction, production and disposal of the vehicle).
We use relatively few averages and generalizations in our calculator. Our primary goal in developing the calculator and creating our database has always been that everyone can calculate their personal footprint as accurately as possible. In this way, for example, people who hardly ever drive are not held responsible for emissions from infrastructure such as highways, which in many common calculators are added to each footprint as a lump sum. Therefore, sometimes it might take a little longer to find out your specific values, or it might take a little more detailed effort to find out your specific values. In many places, however, you can also choose how precisely you want to enter the data.
As high as our standards are, the data situation unfortunately does not always allow us to store concrete values. And sometimes the query would simply be too complicated and tedious for you, and you would despair in front of the computer or abort it, since it is very complex to map the wealth of detail of the most diverse facts in the CO2 factors. At these points, we also use average values and sometimes estimates, but these have been conscientiously collected from a wide variety of sources, compared and selected according to numerous quality criteria.
