What are CO2 equivalents?
We consume electricity, travel, and heat our homes—all of which generate emissions that affect our atmosphere and impact the climate. These emissions include not onlyCO₂, but also other climate-impacting gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. They can be calculated and expressed inCO₂ equivalents. Methane, for example, is also released in excessive quantities as a result of human activity. 1g of methane is approximately 25 times more climate-impacting than 1gof CO2. 1g of methane therefore equates to 25gof CO2 equivalents.
