How can I be sure that Wilderness International is not engaging in greenwashing?
In nature conservation, it is often extremely difficult for outsiders to distinguish between effective projects and greenwashing. However, there are certain quality criteria that can be used to measure reputable forest conservation projects. These include additionality, measurability, uniqueness, permanence, verifiability, and compliance with social and environmental standards. You can find out more about the quality criteria here.
We focus on maximum transparency and verifiable success:
In 2023, after an extensive six-month process, we were awarded the PHINEO Wirkt! seal to ensure that our work actually has the impact we claim.
In order to reassess our impact, we will also be conducting a commissioned a comprehensive process assessment from BAUM e.V. in the spring of 2025. BAUM is a non-profit business network in Europe that promotes sustainable business practices and climate protection. The assessment was carried out by Rainer Kant, a certified forester and senior consultant for biodiversity and ecosystems at BAUM e.V., who is one of Germany's most prominent sustainability experts in this field.
We are also signatories to the Transparent Civil Society Initiative. This means we are committed to disclosing our financial figures. More information on this can be found here.
We georeference every donation and publish regular impact reports to ensure that you are fully informed about how your donations are being used. We also have plans for future projects that will give you even greater transparency about the rainforest and the impact of your donation, even from a distance.
